The twelve images I selected reflect a range of styles and techniques that I have produced over the last few years. I selected these twelve that I have enjoyed creating and experimenting to pursue a different outcome each time.
For my first piece of work, this is an example of my fascination with underwater photography. This was my first experience in an underwater environment and I particularly like the qualities that can be obtained through variation of light and movement. I feel this image shows fluent and delicate virtues that I set out to capture.
My second, third, ninth, tenth and eleventh pieces of work are series of marks to experiment with the weight of line, patterns and different materials to represent a range of textures in my environment. I then layered these up and made them into booklets to create a more in depth and distant illusion.
The next piece is an A1 image of Francisco Goya’s work which I decided to replicate by embroidering. I really enjoyed making this particular piece as it was a difficult challenge and process to complete. However, I enjoyed exploring the different qualities that stitching provides and links well into Goya’s scratchy and detailed works. I have supported my Goya research with a three quick ink sketches of his prints.
For my next two pieces of work, I was drawn to a different form of art. I wanted to create loose tactile paintings with layers of texture and density inspired by a vile selection of scars and wounds. I wanted to create colourful and celebratory paintings that don’t typically embody a foul outlook of the context.
I feel that I am willing, dedicated and enthusiastic to experiment with diverse mediums and consistency to deliver varied outcomes. The images selected are pieces I have immensely enjoyed making and wish to continue more in depth.
